How Finance works
Create and send invoices
Enter bills and payments
Import and match bank lines
Close the period
What changes
From how it usually goes, to how it could go.
Without it
Payroll, sales and delivery figures are typed into accounting.
With it
They feed into your ledger from the apps that created them.
Without it
Retainers and rent are billed by hand each month.
With it
Recurring billing runs automatically, with a history of each run.
Without it
Someone changes last quarter after it was finished.
With it
Posting into a closed period is refused.
What it does
What you get with Finance
Accountants, finance managers and business owners.
General ledger
Chart of accounts, journal entries, trial balance for any dates and multi-currency, with rates you enter.
Financial statements
Profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow from your ledger, with comparisons, PDF and CSV download, and year-end GIFI mapping.
Invoices and bills
Create, issue, post and send invoices as PDFs, with proformas, credit and debit memos, and vendor bills.
Payments and credits
Record and apply payments, use credits, refund through a bank account and write off what you can’t collect.
Aging and statements
See who owes what by how late it is, on any date, with dated customer and vendor statements as PDFs.
Recurring billing
Bill retainers, memberships and rent automatically, with a history of each run.
Billing rules
Automatic reminders for unpaid invoices, late fees and early payment discounts, each with its own switch.
Bank reconciliation
Import bank lines by CSV, OFX or QFX, match them to journals and close each statement.
Tax
Tax codes with dated rates. Filing figures come from your posted documents, except income tax, which you enter.
Assets and adjustments
An asset register with depreciation, plus accruals and exchange revaluations, each posting a real journal.
Period close
Fiscal years and periods. It lists what’s unfinished first, and posting into a closed period is refused.
Approvals and audit
Hold invoices and bills above a limit until a second person approves, and keep a log of every change to a Finance record.
Connected
Finance doesn’t work alone.
Your apps share the same people, customers, products and ledger, so work carries across without retyping.
Payroll
Finalized pay runs post a journal.
Bookkeeping
Approved categorizations post to the ledger.
Supply Chain
Raise invoices from sales orders.
Dispatch
Delivery charges become invoices, and carrier invoices become draft bills.
Automation
Invoices being issued or paid can start rules, and rules can draft invoices.
What it doesn’t do yet
We’d rather you know now. These aren’t part of this app today.
- Combined statements across several organizations
- Statements by department or location
- Submitting tax returns. The figures are worked out for you, and you send the return yourself
- Automatic exchange rates outside Canadian dollar pairs. The lookup is off unless it’s set up for you
- Deferred revenue schedules. Invoice into a liability account and recognize the revenue by journal
- Retention or progress billing
- An invoice template for each customer. Choose one per document
